Switch parking to the east side of Lansdowne
Letter to the editor of the Westmount Independent, published in the 2020-8-25 issue
I support the suggestion by Richard Lock at city council on August 3 to switch parking from the west to the east side of Lansdowne Ave. between Sherbrooke and de Maisonneuve. Not only would this provide more parking (there are about 17 driveways on the west side, but only about 10 on the east) but pedestrian safety and comfort will improve. The east sidewalk is heavily used by seniors residing at Manoir Westmount, by Contactivity members, and by Westmount recreation centre users.
A row of parked cars would protect these pedestrians from vehicles that lose control in icy conditions and from being splashed by water and slush when inconsiderate drivers speed through puddles.
